Confidence

This week we are going to look at self-esteem and confidence. I used alcohol as a mask, creating a false sense of confidence.

I wanted everyone to like me and took on the role of clown and entertainer on a night out. The problem was, it always went past the point of funny.

At first, when I stopped drinking, I struggled with a lack of confidence. I felt overwhelmed and awkward without alcohol as a crutch. The more I pushed myself into uncomfortable situations, the more I started to enjoy myself and feel more confident in my own skin. I was being unashamedly me, rather than trying to fit in and I began to like myself more, I felt a sense of respect for myself that hadn’t been there before and as time went by I noticed I felt more love for myself.

I learned to listen to my intuition rather than drown it out and ignore it.

I realised that before I had been a serial people pleaser. I wanted everyone to like me. I needed others to make me comfortable and to give me validation. This was because I couldn’t do this for myself. I didn’t have the awareness of it until I stopped drinking and started to work on self-love and confidence.

Now I know that the right people will like me, for me.

CONFIDENCE VISUALISATION - LISTEN TO ME

I also want you to take some time to think about what makes you unique.

What are your best traits? What are some of your greatest accomplishments?

If you can’t think of any yet, then reach out and ask a friend. Celebrate yourself for once.

We are also celebrating how far we have already come on our Sober Journey together. We are going to mark the occasion with an alcohol-free cocktail.

Cheers!

Alex, also known as the World’s First Sober Sommelier, will show us how to create a fabulous alcohol-free cocktail - The Sentia Pomegranate Cosmopolitan.

  • 50ml Sentia

  • 50ml fresh lime juice

  • 50ml pomegranate juice

  • Sprig of fresh rosemary

You can use either a glass jar or a shaker over ice for mixing. You will need to strain it into a cup / Martini glass. We will garnish with fresh pomegranate seeds and the fresh rosemary sprig.

I’m not the best at making cocktails, but this was nice and easy and tastes amazing!

Here’s some tunes from a Sober Session event I hosted with Alex in Jersey to listen to whilst you make your cocktail - if you don’t like this music, then pop something else on to create that ‘out out’ feeling!

Love & Light,

Sober Jo x
