Week 8 - Play
As we journey through life, it's easy to forget the innate playfulness and joy that characterized our childhoods. Remember when singing, laughing, and dancing were effortless expressions of our true selves? It's time to reconnect with that carefree spirit and rediscover the joy of play.
Here's a little secret: You can tap into that childlike sense of wonder and playfulness whenever you choose, without the need for alcohol or external validation. You hold the power to be silly, loud, and spontaneous, all on your own terms. When alcohol isn't dictating your actions, you reclaim control over your experiences and embrace the freedom to be authentically you.
So, let go of the fear of judgment and step into your power. It's time to have fun on your own terms. What would you do if you didn't fear being judged? Take a moment to reflect and jot down your thoughts on the PLAY page of your journal.
I have said this before, and I’ll keep saying it because it’s true…
‘We were all children once’.
Most children spend their time without a second thought, being playful, singing, telling jokes, laughing, playing, drawing, writing stories and dancing. It comes naturally to us.
If it feels good, then we do it. We do not care what anyone else thinks of us.
I want to let you into a bit of a secret…you can connect with that same child.
You don’t need permission from anyone.
You get to choose when you are silly or loud and the party person.
You can turn it off too because when alcohol isn’t the reason, you are in control.
You are the master of your destiny.
Let go of the fear of being judged because it’s not serving you anymore.
It’s time to step into your power and to have fun (on your terms).
What would you do if you didn’t fear being judged? Write on the PLAY page of your Sober Journal. If you’re not sure, try some of the suggestions below,
And if you're in need of inspiration, here are a few suggestions to get you started:
Laughter Yoga.
Nothing beats a good belly laugh. During Lockdown I tried laughter yoga, and it was so much fun! Once I started laughing, I couldn’t stop and it made me feel so good.
Studies have shown that laughing is linked to our physical, emotional and mental well-being. We feel better after letting go.
Dive into the healing power of laughter with laughter yoga. This unique practice combines laughter exercises with deep breathing to promote physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. Movement is medicine.
Get your body moving and grooving to the rhythm of your own beat.
Whether dancing around your living room, going for a walk in nature, or trying out a new exercise class, movement is a powerful tool for enhancing your mood and energy levels.
Put on your favourite tunes and let your body lead the way.
The more you become comfortable with moving your body and start doing it for enjoyment and because it feels good, the easier it will get.
Here are some movements and music to get you started.
Don’t judge yourself. Go with the flow and see where it takes you.
Most importantly, have fun. Feel your vibe rise.
