The Seven Systems

Mitochondria and Energy

50 trillion cells in our bodies respond and change with every thought we have. Our incredible consciousness, more than any other animal, gives us agency over our biology. And in turn our biology, our inner chemistry hugely impacts our emotions and thoughts. In fact, it is all a miraculous biology, and by investing in our wellness we contribute to the improvement of the whole human race.

The Seven Systems

According to Functional Medicine, seven systems interact with each other under the skin.

Physical Intelligence® supports all seven systems but significantly depends on the most dynamic and connecting of them: the Communication system. This system is made up of neurotransmitters and hormones that move through our bodies and brains. The levels of these chemicals shift and change over time—even moment by moment. These chemicals dictate how we think, feel, speak, and behave. Yet, most people operate at the mercy of these chemicals, not realising that they can strategically influence them.

As a result, you can become ‘stuck’ or blocked because memories, beliefs, and all our experiences are chemically encoded into our bodies. How we feel about something chemically influences our capability and our chances of succeeding. Therefore, it is vital to understand ourselves better and to develop the ability to change our behaviour.

Communication system

Chemical messengers that race through the nervous system and bloodstream.

Structural system

Muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, cell membranes that support us, move us and hold us together.

Transportation system

Network of cardiovascular, pulmonary (lungs) systems combined.

Digestive system

Includes the gut microbiome which is a huge driver ofhealth, mood and performance.

Immune and Inflammatory system

Has a vital impact on performance and ageing.

Detoxification system

Cleanses our body and eliminates toxins.

Energy production system

At a cellular level, it gives us life.

Please listen to this visualisation and take time to get back into your body.

  • Settle in a comfortable space, with no distractions.

  • You may want to move or write during the process, so create enough space and get writing materials ready.

  • You may want to be seated or standing. Either is fine to start with.

  • If you are standing with your eyes closed, then you may have a chair or wall nearby to use for support if necessary. The majority of visualisations are done seated.

  • Find a grounded, balanced position, with your feet on the ground, your spine

  • long and shoulders open, with ease in your muscles and just enough muscle tension to maintain your stance.

  • Breathe deeply and freely.

  • Visualisation is usually done with the eyes closed in order for us to access imagery that comes into the mind’s eye – without being distracted by external stimuli. However you may not be comfortable doing this, in which case use a soft focus and rest your eyes on something that is pleasant and undemanding to look at.

  • If you are particularly tense, relax, soften the eyes and relax your tongue in your mouth. You can lightly part the lips and release the jaw. This stimulates the vagus nerve and the body’s relaxation system.

  • Relaxing the eyes, helps insights and imagery to emerge more easily. Let your mind settle and create space for pictures to appear in your mind’s eye, and continue breathing deeply and freely.

  • Have fun with it; no visualisation is a bad visualisation.

Reflect on your experience.

Grab a pen and paper and write down your reflections.
